2015 Crews that Rock winners

Words: Steven PomerantzFor the fourth year, World of Concrete 2015 is recognizing the accomplishments of crews in the commercial construction/masonry industry with the CREWS THAT ROCK competition, sponsored by BASF. This popular contest honors crew members for their teamwork and contribution to the industry and their communities. Crews submitted stories and photos of their amazing and inspiring projects from the past year for a chance to win a trip to the show, hotel stays, seminars and other exciting prizes.

Projects were submitted in one of two categories, Community Service/Not-for-Profit and Commercial/For-Profit. With 25 total finalists, including 19 in the Commercial category and six in the Community Service category, the contest resulted in thousands of online votes and tremendous interest through social networks.

Langston Concrete Inc. received the award in the Commercial/For-Profit category for the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. In June 2013, The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park was devastated by wildfire. While the bridge suffered only minimal damage, all but four of the park's 52 buildings were destroyed. Langston Concrete Inc. performed the structural concrete work for the bridge and park, which reopened in August 2014. Langston Concrete is extremely pleased with the team, whom dedicated more than 32,000 man hours into the project.

International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers’ (BAC) La Grange Park’s Veterans Memorial received the award for the Community Service/Not-For-Profit category. On July 4, 2013, the Community Park District of La Grange Park in Illinois launched a fundraising campaign to build a memorial with inscribed bricks to salute the community’s veterans. Coordinated by International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Administrative District Council 1 of Illinois (ADC 1 of IL), dozens of active and retired members of BAC Chicagoland Locals generously donated cash, supplies and labor to help build the project.

The two Grand Prize winners will be honored at WOC 2015 during the Crews That Rock reception on Wednesday, February 4 at 3 p.m. in the CC Live booth. BASF and TV personalities Dean & Derek will present awards and swag bags for the winning crews.

“We’re excited to present the winners of the Crews That Rock contest once again. For the fourth year in a row, we were impressed by the projects submitted by the crews in the concrete/ masonry construction industries,” said Jackie James, WOC Show Director. “World of Concrete and BASF look forward to honoring these crews and celebrating their accomplishments at the Crews That Rock reception on Wednesday, February 4!”
