Come see what BIM-M has to offer at World of Masonry

Words: Fred KinatederThe masonry industry came together to form BIM-M in 2013. Their goal is to update the processes of the masonry industry so that it can operate in the BIM environment.

BIM-M is sponsored by the International Masonry Institute, Mason Contractors Association of America, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, National Concrete Masonry Association, The Masonry Society, and Western States Clay Products.

The last two years BIM-M has been trying to educate the masonry industry about Building Information Modeling (BIM). Creating an awareness of what BIM is. Who is using BIM and how they are using it to build projects virtually. “Build it before you build it.”

Well now that the buzz about BIM has been created it is time to illustrate what the “Deliverables” are from BIM for the mason contractor. The” I” in BIM stands for information. BIM-M wants to show you what kind of” Information” you can get from the model, how to get it from the model and how to use it to make you more productive and consequently more profitable.

Come and see some live examples of modeling by contractors, software demonstrations from software providers, and examples of deliverables that can be pulled from the models. Mock ups built from virtual mock ups, and much more. Pick up a copy of the new guide “BIM Deliverables for the Mason Contractor Volume 1.”

My name is Fred Kinateder and I am a project manager for BIM-M. I am in charge of contractor outreach. My main goal is to make sure contractors get the tools they need and are prepared to use them to work in the BIM environment.

Please stop by and see us on Wednesday at the Innovation Tent at WOM. For more information on BIM-M please check out the website www.bimformasonry.org.

I look forward to seeing you at the show.
