Masonry Saws

Norton Products

A new condensed catalog from Norton Co.'s Safety Products Division, 2000 Plainfield Pike, Cranston, RI 02920, offers full product information on each of Norton's major personal protection lines. These include head protection, spectacles and goggles, faceshields, welding helmets, hearing protectors, clothing, gloves, respirators, and first-aid supplies. The 24-page brochure includes photos of the products as well as line drawings illustrating examples of proper use.


Struck Tool Safety

Even the professionals sometimes don't remember that getting the job done is not the paramount thing. Getting it done safely is. The Hand Tools Institute points out that struck tools-chisels, punches, star drills and wedges-in many cases do not receive the attention they should in regard to their care and selection. Further, the Institute suggests that a refresher course in safety never hurt anyone. This type of information is available in the handbook, "Striking & Struck Tool Safety," which can be ordered at 50g a copy from: Hand Tools Institute, 331 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10017.


Compact Bar Bender

A small, portable bar bender from ELCO International, Inc., 111 Van Riper Ave., Elmwood Park, NJ 07407, handles rebars including a 1" rod. The unit features a large dial which can be quickly set to the desired angle from 0 to 180 degrees. Approximately 18 square, the compact unit weighs 260 lbs, and operates on a 115-volt, single-phase current. Built-in carrying handles allow movement of the bender on job sites.


Safety Gloves

Jomac Products, Inc., Warrington, PA 18976, has announced significant improvements in its latex-coated Safetex gloves designed for handling thin-section materials with rough or sharp edges. The company says the new gloves have a heavier latex coating, offering greater resistance to cuts. Safetex gloves are well suited for heavy-duty in a wide variety of jobs, most notably for handling wire and similar construction materials with either sharp edges or smooth surfaces.


Bil-Jax Stair Towers Provide Worker Safety

How can you give workmen complete safety in gaining access to elevated projects? Tubular steel walk-up stair towers are the answer, according to Bil-Jax, Inc., Archbold, OH 43502. The 52' Bil-Jax stair tower pictured here is one of several utilized by a Wheeling (W. Va.) construction firm on an interstate bridge project to protect its workmen as well as Department of Highways inspectors. Landing decks and stair treads are of expanded metal, and the stair sections have hand rails.


Power Tool Safety

The Safety Committee of the Power Tool Institute has produced a booklet that provides a handy reference to 37 important safety practices when using power tools, both stationary and portable. The fully illustrated booklet capsulizes the Institute's new 54-slide audio/visual program on power tool safety for all professional tradesmen. "Black & White Safety Booklets are available at cost, in quantities of 25 or more, for 15c each. The complete audio/visual program is $34, with cassette recording for manual or automatic play. Fuller Brikarier

Goldblatt Tool Co., 513 Osage, Kansas City, KS 66110, is offering three types of heavy-duty brick tongs-the Fuller Brikarier and the Goldblatt standard and tubular tongs. The Goldblatt tongs are adjustable to handle from 6 to 10 brick or building tile and can be released with one hand. The standard and tubular tongs have no-chip end flanges and a straight handle with a curved hand area. The Fuller Brikarier comes with a wood handle and a lock which opens to unload with one hand.
