Society of Fire Protection Engineers Welcomes Allan Freedman as New Executive Director

Words: Christopher AbellThe Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has named Allan Freedman as its 4th Executive Director. Prior to joining SFPE, Freedman was the Managing Director for two divisions of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA).

“We are pleased to have found a solid professional to lead the organization that advances the science and technology that makes our world safe from fire,” said SFPE President Richard Davis. “He has the leadership skills that are needed to grow SFPE membership services globally.”

At ARTBA, Freedman worked extensively with the engineers who plan and design the nation’s transportation infrastructure. His prior experience includes working with Associated Builders & Contractors and the National Association of Home Builders. Earlier in his career Freedman worked in the field as a construction project manager.

Freedman brings 16 years experience as an association professional to the position. He has worked on many member services including education and training programs, workforce development, publications and conference programs. He holds a Bachelors degree in Management from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Finance from Johns Hopkins University.
