Potomac Valley Brick was recently recognized as a Market Transformation Leader with a Wintergreen Award for Excellence in Green Building for its creation of the BrickStainable Design Competition. The Maryland Chapter of U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC-MD) honored the award winners at a ceremony at the Thames Street Wharf in Baltimore.

Nearly 500 people from the architecture, engineering and construction industries attended the 6th Annual Awards Celebration, which was headlined by keynote speaker, Scott Plank, Executive Vice President of Under Armour.

“It’s an honor to be recognized alongside so many of our peers in this industry,” says Alan Richardson, Potomac Valley Brick President and creator of BrickStainable. “We hope BrickStainable continues to spark innovative solutions for sustainable design in both in the U.S. and international architecture communities.”

BrickStainable received entries from over 60 countries this year. Held in pursuit of design solutions that exploit the unique properties of clay masonry construction, the Competition seeks new ideas in the development of this age old building material. BrickStainable submissions were divided into two categories: Integrated Building Design which seeks integrative design solutions that exploit the thermal qualities of masonry construction in an urban building, and Technical Design which calls for entrants to design a single application utilizing brick to enhance its sustainable properties.

Potomac Valley Brick will award a $10,000 grand prize and $7,500 grand prize in the Integrated Building Design and Technical Design categories respectively at the BrickStainable Awards event in Washington, DC on March 31, 2011. Up to three honorable mention winners in each category will be awarded $2,000 per team. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the National Building Museum and ticket information is available at www.BrickStainable.com.
